How Mediation Works

A straightforward process, from first call to resolution.

Starting mediation shouldn't be complicated. Here's what it actually looks like.

1. Talk with us

Schedule a free introductory consultation and briefly explain what's going on. We'll ask questions to understand the dispute and talk through whether mediation is likely to be a good fit.

2. Bring both sides to the table

If the other party hasn't already agreed to mediate, River can send a neutral invitation on your behalf — explaining what mediation is and offering them their own free, independent conversation with the mediator. Agreeing to that conversation isn't an admission of anything.

3. Mediate

Both parties meet with a neutral mediator, who facilitates a structured conversation: identifying the issues, surfacing each side's actual interests, and helping explore possible solutions. The mediator doesn't decide who's right — the parties do.

4. Resolve & move forward

If the parties reach an agreement, the terms can be documented as appropriate to the matter. Mediation does not guarantee a settlement — but it gives both sides a real chance to reach one on their own terms.

What mediation costs

Simple, upfront pricing. Your first consultation is always free, with no obligation to proceed.

$450

Flat rate

Covers up to four hours of mediation in one session.

$45 per 15 minutes

If a session runs longer

Time beyond four hours is billed at $45 for each additional 15 minutes ($180 per hour).

We'll go over fee arrangements, including how fees are shared between the parties, before mediation begins.

What if we don't reach an agreement?

Mediation is voluntary, and not every mediation ends in a settlement. If an agreement isn't reached, the parties keep whatever other options were available to them before mediation started — mediation doesn't take anything off the table.
